The Maple Grove Distillery

The distillery was established in 1874 1/2 mile west of Lebanon (at what is now the end of Sterk Ave) by R B Lancaster and R N Wathen. Wathen sold his interest to Lancaster the following year to Insurance underwriter records compiled in 1892 suggest that the distillery property included a single iron-clad warehouse fitted with a metal or slate roof and located 120 ft east of the still. A cattle shed sat 40 ft west of the still.

At that time, it was being operated by R B Lancaster as W O Emison & Co..

Robert Lancaster was the brother of Sam P Lancaster.
