The Belmont Distillery
RD #412, 5 th District
Jefferson County, KY

The Belmont distillery was located on 17 th St, between Lexington (Breckenridge) and Arbegust. It was being operated as early as 1870 by Moore & Selliger, who also owned and operated the Astor distillery. The two stills apparently operated side by side.

Insurance underwriter records compiled in 1892 show that there were two distilleries on the site, sharing four warehouses. The warehouses were all brick with metal or slate roofs:
Warehouse A -- this warehouse may have been assigned to the Astor. It was located 40 ft east of the still.
Warehouse B, or "412" -- probably assigned to the Belmont, located 45 ft NE of the still.
Warehouse C -- 88 ft south.
Warehouse D -- 75 ft SW.

At that time, it was being operated as the "Belmont Distilling Co."

Moore died in 1896 and the company continued as Max Selliger & Co..

The distilleries were closed by Prohibition but purchased and operated by Schenley after Repeal.
