The plant was built at Ruddell's Mills, 6 miles north of Paris, KY. The following timeline comes from Cecil (1999: p. 57)

1869: The distillery was built by H C Bowen and J Howard.

1879: Bowen acquired Howard's stake in the distillery. At the time, the still had a capacity of 444 bu and warehouse storage capacity of 8,000 barrels.

1882: Distillery output was 3,400 barrels.

1890: Bowen sold out to Wm Adams and Joe Messer of Cynthiana, Robert House of Covington, Levi Weiskopf of Cincinnati, and B F Bowen of Ruddells Mills, acting as the Bourbon County Distilling Co. The remodeled the distillery.

1891: On February 4, the still house was gutted by fire with a loss of $20,000.

1894: Insurance underwriter records compiled in note that the distillery was new and iron-clad construction. The property included a cattle shed and a single Free and Bonded warehouse, located 100 ft east of the still. At that time, it was being operated by the Bourbon County Dist. Co., late J W Watson & Co.

The plant operated until Prohibition.
