The distillery was located on the banks of the Monongahela river in West Brownsville, PA. Sam Thompson was a native of Brownsville, PA and acquired the plant in 1844. He produced Sam Thompson Monongahela Rye Whiskey there until Prohibition. The brand continued to be sold for medicinal purposes until Repeal and later was acquired and produced elsewhere by Schenley.
