The Grotto listed from 1882-1918.
*Glass measurements have not been confirmed.
Information comes from Thomas (PCSF), who suggests that William W Ward was originally the owner of the Railroad House, a saloon located in an old railway depot at A & 6 th Sts. In 1880, he is suggested to partner with J L Murphy in another saloon at 96 D St., perhaps the Grotto.
By 1882, Ward was sole owner. In 1907, he established a partnership with Zan Frye in running The Grotto and it lasted until 1914 when Frye bought him out. It finally closed in 1918 with the advent of Prohibition.
Company name timeline: W W Ward (1882-1907), Ward & Frye (1907-1914), Zan Frye (1914-1918)
