Allerton was one of two colts (Axtell and Allerton) owned by Charles W Williams of Iowa. In 1889 Axtell, as a three-year-old, became the world trotting stallion champion. Williams sold the horse for a record $105,000 and used the proceeds to built the first kite-shaped track in the country and to promoted racing in Iowa. Allerton beat this record and Williams turned down an offer of $150,000 for him. Williams retired from the the horse business in 1908 and traveled the country as an evangelist. He died in 1936 in Aurora, IL.
Allerton was their only registered brand but they used many others and there is a "No 8" glass in OASG. Allerton was a race horse that set a trotting record of one mile in two minutes, nine and a quarter seconds, in 1891.
