"Euclid Wine House"

"My great-grandfather started the Schuster Wine Co. in Cleveland soon after arriving in America from Kallstadt, Germany where the Schuster Wine Co was in continuous operation since 1590. The company in Germany was recently sold and the name has been changed.

The Schuster Wine Co. in Cleveland had their vineyards in what is now Euclid, Ohio. The company operated as a Winery until Prohibition when they developed syrups for making soda and for topping ice cream. This was not as successful as the Winery.

The vineyards were in Euclid because my great-grandfather believed that the moist air coming off of Lake Erie would make the grapes more succulent."

Thanks to Sandra Scheldt Bush McGonigal for sharing family history.

Brand names used by this company include: "Beech Hollow", "Beersford", "Bismarck", "Brinovic Gin", "Carnival Club", "Green Lawn", "Number Two", and "Uno - Club."
