The orginal owner of this and a variant Auto Rye glass reports their origins as follows:

"My great grandfather, grandfather, and dad (the glasses were part of his estate) were members of the Lithuanian Society of New Britain, CT. I know that each one held an office in this society in their lifetime.

The Lithuanian Society was quite active and held many functions, they owned a huge stone/brick building just for this reason (built in 1912), and then had a bar called the Varpas Club set up 7 days a week. There must have been a lot of liquor/promos etc. brought into the club; could be these glasses came from there. New York is not that far away from New Britain."

Brand names used by this company include: "Auto Rye."
