A wooden crate that once held 12, one-quart bottles of "Large Pure Monongahela Rye" whiskey, from the Large Distilling Co. of Pittsburgh, PA. It dates to around 1918 and measures 17-1/2" x 13" x 12-1/2" tall. One side bears a green label that reads: United States Internal Revenue, Distilled Spirits 3 Gallons, State of Pennsylvania. This case contains 3 proof gallons distilled spirits in 12 bottles. Signed, John Schreiber, US storekeeper and guager, Case Stamp, Tax Paid."
