Samuel B. Poyntz was born in Mason County, KY in 1819; died August, 1890. He was married to Mary (Dewees) Poyntz and was son of William Poyntz, who had migrated to Kentucky from Pennsylvania and was an early settler of the state. Samuel relocated to Cincinnati in 1865 and was a wholesale grocer until becoming a distiller (along with his sons), in Maysville, KY. The Cinicinnati listings continue as Poyntz Bros & Co.; the Maysville listings show a city office for the distillery; the distillery was RD #6 of the 7th district.
