Andrew Usher is creditted with being the father of “blended” Scotch Whisky. He was the originator of the first commercial blend, which debuted in 1853. Usher was the Edinburgh agent for Glenlivet, a Scottish town that had so many malt houses that its name has become synonymous with Scotch whisky. Usher thus named his creation "Old Vatted Glenlivet". Usher was creator of the famous whisky distilling and blending company of Andrew Usher & Co in 1813.

The company used the brand names:
"Exceptional Scotch", "G. & J. G Smiths Glenlivet", "Green Stripe", "Liqueur Whisky", "O. V. S. Special Reserve", "Old Vatted Glenlivet Scotch", "Royal Brackla Scotch", and "Usher Scotch."
