Taylor and Bendel was formed in 1866 when Taylor formed a partnership with Herman Bendel, previously of Fred Tillmann groceries. The partnership lasted until 1874, when Taylor headed to Nevada and opened a business in Virginia City to supply the silver mines. He died in the 1880's, but the business continued with Charles Cellarius in charge, although Taylor's widow, Bertha, retained control from her home in Munich, Germany.

The company finally closed in 1901, Gustav C Vocke, Manager.
