Today was more a day to visit with non-shot-collecting friends such as Kathy Sathe.

Kathy edits Bottles & Extras magazine and was staffing the Federation's table, soliciting memberships.  I was amused to see that she was trying to lure in potential members with an issue of the magazine open to my "Shooting Shots" article!  There's hope for shot collectors yet!

By next day, the crowds had thinned considerably and our collecting colleagues had headed for home.  It would have been fitting if a late exhibitor arrived with a tattered box full of picture glasses and lugs at bargain prices, but I can't even imagine that happening in my dream life, let alone Collinsville IL.

The only shots left on the sales tables were from Grand Rapids and text-only:

I finally got on the road at 2 pm and began the journey back south.  I mentally took stock of glasses I had stashed away in my trophy box - I counted 8 in all, but that included the Michelson I found on the way up.  Not a bad haul for one show; I've been to many where I've come home empty handed, so finding even one is always a triumph.  But this show had held so much promise - it's a shame.

But ultimately, as both Dick and I have said before, it's the folks you meet that makes a show worth attending.  I now had a face to attach to lakerdude33 when he's taking me to task for being tardy on SOTW, and when Clint next contacts me asking for information about a glass, I'll fondly recall him calling me a "s - * - * - t - h - e - a - d".

But, best of all, the next time I set a snipe on a glass that I know xxxtruk is after, I'll feel as if I can TRULY see the whites of his eyes.  Life -- is -- good.

OK, time to focus, where's the nearest antique mall.  Sure glad I have so much cash left over to spend on all the shots I'm bound to find on the way home....

A sampling of the exhibits.  Above, Sanford's Ink and Mucilage.  Yum!

Makes me grateful that we don't have to hack shot glasses out of tree roots!

My kind of bottle collection - a very small one!
