Glasner & Barzen listed from 1873-1918. This glass is not listed, but there is a label under variant in HSG, p.141, entry #4. "The largest Liquor House in the West" (city directory, 1903). The business was established in 1873 by A H Glasner of Iowa. It was orginally a grocery store located at 9 th & Mulberry in the West Bottoms. Glasner was also a bottler and distributer of Dick & Bros. beers (Quincy, IL). In 1882, Jacob Barzen became a Glasner's partner. Barzen was orginally from Reil in Germany, where he had also worked as a grocer. He emigrated to the US in March of 1872 and worked as a book-keeper for various wine, liquor and cigar establishments. Glasner & Barzen's store was located at 227 Union Avenue. In 1884, the partners gave up the grocery business and became liquor wholesalers at 10th & Mulberry. Their business expanded rapidly and they had representatives in AK, CO, IA, NE, NM, TX, WI, and WY. The company incorporated in 1903 and around the same time became owners of the Blue Valley Distillery (RD. #3, 6th District of Missouri, located in Leeds, Jackson Co. ).
