"Distillers of Old Boone Nelson Co. whiskey, distillery Bardstown, KY" (1902)

In 1889, John Thixton took over his father's banking and wholesale liquor businesses in Owensboro, KY. He later teamed up with E. P. Millett, who had recently sold his distillery to R. Monarch and created a wholesaler and distiller's agent concern. The best-known brand to result from the partnership was "Thixton's V.O". In 1903 they bought out the Boone & Bro. distillery together the "Old Boone" brand name. This distillery was located in Bardstown and was little more than a barn, buying local grain and using local materials to produce liquor that they sold to the local community. In 1912 they purchased the Old Saxton distillery in Chicago, KY and created a modern facility with a grain elevator, bottling house and cooperage shop. The distillery operated until prohibition with "Old Boone" and "Thixton's V.O." continuing as the most popular brands.

Brand names used by this company include: "De Soto", "Finnegan's", "Hurdle", "Idlebrook", "Old Boone", and "Old Wagner."
