The Poyntz Bros. Distillery
RD #6, 7 th District
Mason County, KY

The distillery initially was operated by Samuel and Benjamin, his son, operating as Benj. B Poyntz & Sons.

In 1881, Charles Baldwin Poyntz joined the firm. Charles was Benjamin's brother and had been working for the Indianapolis and St. Louis Railroad as accountant and paymaster for the previous eight years.

Samuel died in 1890 but the firm continued as Poyntz Bros. & Co.

Insurance underwriter records compiled in 1892 suggest that the distillery was built of bricks with a metal or slate roof. The property included a frame cattle shed, located 75 ft NE of the still, and two bonded warehouses:
Warehouse A -- iron-clad construction with a metal or slate roof, 65 ft north of the still.
Warehouse B -- iron-clad construction with a metal or slate roof, adjoining Warehouse A.
The records also note a free warehouse located at 21-23 Wall St., at the NE cor of 2 nd St. The warehouse was two-storey and brick.

At the time of the insurance company report, the still was being operated by Poyntz Bros.

By 1909, the Fox River Distilling Co . of Chicago was claiming to be sole controller.
