The John G Roach & Co. Distillery
RD #8, 5 th District
Jefferson County, KY

The distillery was built in 1892 by John G Roach, who had recently lost the Uniontown Distillery to fire. It was located at 30th & Garland in Louisville. Roach was owner of the "Old Log Cabin" brand. Insurance underwriter records compiled in 1892 and updated in 1896 show that the distillery was of brick and iron-clad construction, with a brick boiler-house. The property included a separate mill building and cattle sheds, located 115 ft north of the still. In 1892 there was a single warehouse, but a hand notation in the record suggests that a second one had been added (or was missed in the original) by 1896:
Warehouse A -- iron-clad and located 170 ft north of the still.
Warehouse B -- iron-clad and located 250 ft north of the still.

Roach retired and sold out to the Trust in 1900. They operated it until Prohibition and the brand name was continued after Repeal.
