OWEN MAGUIRE |
|
Embossed bottle on eBay shows them as "O. & B. Maguire successors to M. Mathews & Co. Wholesale Liquor Dealers 109 Market St. Phila. Pa" Mark N. provides some information on the fate of the Maguire business: "In 1927, my great-grandfather Harry Shapiro, opened 3 hardware stores in Philly for his 3 sons. My grandfather Bernard, had the one at 139-141 Market Street. There was a plaque in the sidewalk of my grandfather's store and the establishment next door. The plaque stated that there was strong belief that Benjamin Franklin's original print shop was on one these premises. In 1976, the row of buildings were torn down to establish an on-ramp for I-95, and the location of the print shop was under my grandfather's store. Thanks also to Mark for sending an image of a reverse-in-glass sign for Admiral Whiskey found in the basement of the premises.
