Thos. Taylor & Co. listed from 1865-1901.

Thomas (WB) suggests that Taylor may have begun his business in 1859 or earlier, starting with a wine & liquor importing business at 109 Clay.

By 1862, he joined was operating in parnership with William Reichel at John G Frisch & Co. (not listed) at 413-415 Clay. Taylor bought out the partners in 1864 and ran it on his own until 1866.

Taylor and Bendel was formed in 1866 when Taylor formed a partnership with Herman Bendel, previously of Fred Tillmann groceries. The partnership lasted until 1874, when Taylor headed to Nevada and opened a business in Virginia City to supply the silver mines. Bendel rejoined Tillmann as a partner in a wholesale grocery business.

When the silver mines began to peter out, Taylor took his accumulated wealth and moved back to San Francisco and opened his store on Sacramento (1883). He died in the 1880's, but the business continued with Charles Cellarius in charge, although Taylor's widow, Bertha, retained control from her home in Munich, Germany.

The company finally closed in 1901, Gustav C Vocke, Manager.
