OASG reports that the grocery and liquory business was established in 1856 by Peter and Patrick Holihan. Patrick died in 1882 and the business was continued by Davis & Murphy. In 1890, the Holihan Bros. (James P., Joseph P and Charles A. Holihan) took back control, the business now located at Common & Hampshire Streets. They were famous for their Diamond Spring beers, produced at their own brewery located at the corner of Andover & Beacon Sts.
