Although this glass is not listed, a plain glass variant is in OASG.
James Christopher Pidgeon was referred to in his wedding announcement as "a popular South Main street liquor dealer."
In a 1902 advertisement for "Free Rye Whiskey, " his address is given as 648, 650 and 652 Main Street. This was the land he purchased on April 12, 1901 along with the fixtures of the estate of the L. C. Lea Co. of 648-652 S Main (since 1905: 552 S Main) and adjoining lots opposite Illinois Central Railroad Depot, for a total of $13,000.
L. C. Lea Co. was a wholesale and retail liquor business run by J. C. Pidgeon. One of these buildings still stands as 552 South Main Street. This lot was Lot 243 of the Overton Subdivision, which was originally part of John Overton's 180- acre tract in South Memphis. Lea was the second owner, and Pidgeon the third.
Pidgeon abandoned the whiskey business when he purchased the Memphis Coca-Cola bottler in 1909.
